Ingredients

  • 1 box yellow cake mix, plus ingredients called for on box

  • 1 stick softened butter

  • Black gel frosting

  • 26 Peanut M&M’s

  • 4 c. powdered sugar

  • 1/2 c. milk

  • 1 tsp. maple extract

  • 1/2 tsp. kosher salt

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • To Make Sheet Cake: Grease and flour a 12″-x-17″ baking sheet with edges or jelly roll pan.
  • Prepare and bake cake mix according to package instructions, or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean. Set aside to cool.
  • To Make Maple Frosting: In a large bowl or stand mixer, beat butter until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes.
  • Add powdered sugar, beating on the lowest speed until combined, then beat in milk, maple extract, and salt. If your frosting isn’t thin enough, add 1 tablespoon of milk at a time.
  • Pour frosting on top of cake, using a butter knife to smooth into an even layer.
  • Using a gel icing, draw three lines longways on the cake, on the top, middle, and towards the bottom—these will be the strings for your string lights.
  • Lay peanut M&Ms, 8 on the first line, 9 on the middle, and 9 on the bottom.
  • Pipe a letter of the alphabet under each light. Serve.
